Traveling to Yountville, CA

Yountville is very well known for, you guessed it, The French Laundry (of course) and also has another very well known Michelin starred restaurant on its beautifully paved streets, Bouchon Bistro, also owned by none other than Chef Thomas Keller. Yountville is becoming an even bigger name in Napa Valley besides for its Michelin starred cuisine. From the tasting rooms to the other restaurants it possesses, Yountville is booming like never before. The town is so small that you can ride a bike to everywhere you want to go making it a perfect outdoorsy delight. The artful streets and magical setting is what sets this little town apart from the rest. The town is full of happy locals and lined with gorgeous vineyards and red brick buildings. The aroma of the food from local restaurants makes you want to eat everywhere you stop. From the 5 star hotels, wineries and dining selections, Yountville is truly a hidden gem.

Yountville is an hour and twelve minute drive, depending on traffic, from the gorgeous bay city of San Francisco. It is a very small town of less than 3,000 people. Located just nine miles north of world famous Napa, California off of Highway 29, Yountville holds some of the best vineyards and restaurants in the region.

Getting there:

If you’re like me and not lucky enough to call anywhere within a 4 hour driving period of Yountville, home, the most difficult part is getting there, as you can see in the section below. I did all of the homework for you. You can fly into one of four airports: Oakland Airport (OAK)San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Sacramento (SMF), or  Sonoma County Airport (STS). You also can simply rent a car, which is really much cheaper than you would think, or you can shuttle:

  • From San Francisco, you can use Evans Transportation, which is a direct, cash only option. Also, the more complicated way is to take an Uber/Taxi to catch a Baylink Ferry from SFO, transferring to VINE Route 10 in Vallejo, with Route 10 taking you all the way to Yountville.
  • From Oakland, you can take an Uber/Taxi from Oakland Int’l Airport to El Cerrito Del Norte BART, which will take you to Yountville.
  • From Sacramento, you will have to Uber/Taxi from Terminal A to 5th and P Street. At 5th & P Street you’ll catch the shuttle to Fairfield Transportation Center where you can Uber/Taxi/Bus to Yountville.
  • From Santa Rosa (Sonoma County), you can Uber from the airport or take a taxi. They also have a bus that comes by every 15 minutes.

Where to eat:

Unless you booked The French Laundry every night and are visiting Bouchon every time they’re open, finding the best food in Yountville is not a problem. Just walk into the first restaurant you see, you’ll be taken away in a heartbeat. This little town boasts the best in the culinary industry. Don’t believe me, check it out for yourself! Here are a couple of restaurants you HAVE TO visit while riding through this little town.

Bistro Jeanty: The first restaurant I stopped at while I was in town was this little French jewel. The outside of the building is so warm and inviting it is hard to resist walking in. This French cuisine restaurant will knock your socks right off with their home style cooking and down right amazing service.

Bottega Napa Valley: The Chiarello Vineyards and Bottega have the same owner, and are right next door to each other in the V Marketplace. Bottega is an out of this world Italian experience that should not be missed. They have an amazing wine selection, hence owning the vineyard, and even better Italian fare.

Lucy Restaurant and Bar: Lucy Restaurant is located in the gorgeous Bardessono Hotel and offers a great selection of wine, appetizers and entrees that will have you coming back for more. It is gorgeous to go during the day for brunch or a quick bite, or a full meal at night. I fell in love with the Hand Rolled Gnocchi and Stone Fruit Salad! Their cocktails are out of this world, just letting you know!
